Loose Leaf Teas versus Standard Tea Bag Teas

Loose Leaf Teas versus Standard Tea Bag Teas

Once you have tasted tea infused from loose tea leaves, you palate will let you know that there is a major difference. What is the difference?

In this article we dig deeper into why loose leaf tea will become your tea of choice. We wil look at a few things that really highlights the difference: namely the quality of the tea leaves, the amount of room tea leaves have to steep, and the variety of teas available.

Tea leaves versus tea "dust"

Do you know that the teas that you buy in the grocery stores in teabags are usually made from tea dust? I invite you to open a tea bag, and you will probably find small particles of low-quality tea in dust form. Those teas in tea bags are normally fairly inexpensive and available everywhere. In contrast, loose leaf tea is made from whole leaves of tea, which are of a much higher quality and the tea brewed from it taste 1000 times better, although they do cost a bit more. But then you are paying for quality and a fantastic tea brew, full of flavour and other goodies that are healthy benefits.

Although our selection of loose leaf teas are a bit more costly than the “dust” variety, at the Treasure Chest, we source our teas from reputable suppliers. However, our teas are still highly affordable, making our teas an easy replacement for the “Dust” tea that you find in supermarkets and other food stores. Once you tasted any of our teas, it will be something that you will enjoy everyday and treasure.

Flavor

Overall, loose leaf tea tends to be much more flavorful than tea bags. Full leaf teas tend to be complex and nuanced, and even bold, strong teas like breakfast blends have a fuller depth of flavor. In comparison, tea bags can seem very bland. While there’s nothing wrong with enjoying tea made from tea bags, if you love tea, chances are you’ll enjoy loose leaf tea even more.

The Brew

Most teabags are packed tight, allowing little room for the tea to expand and release its flavor as it steeps. Loose leaf teas, when properly prepared, have plenty of room to expand and result in a lovely, flavorful cup. Because they’re made of higher quality tea leaves, loose leaf teas typically take a bit longer to brew, but the wait is well worth it.

Tea Variety

There are certainly many different varieties of teas in teabags out there, but the options are endless when it comes to loose leaf tea. At The Treasure Chest, we carry over 50 different varieties of tea, and we will continue to expand our offerings. While it can be hard to find certain kinds of tea in teabags, we carry a full range of teas, from popular breakfast teas like English Breakfast, to lesser-known teas like Pu-erh.
